Culture & Society Award

The Arab-British Culture & Society Award

The Arab-British Culture & Society Award was launched in 2007. It was the original concept of the Rt Hon. Sir Peter Lloyd, former chair of the ABC, intended to celebrate, promote and encourage the work of those involved in educating the British public on the life and times of the Arab world and its people.

At the inaugural prize-giving ceremony in June 2008 Al Saqi Books were awarded the first prize of £5,000 and the opportunity of support and promotion of future work. The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts were specially commissioned to design and produce an Arab-themed trophy for the occasion.

Each year the ABC invites the public to nominate individuals or organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to the British public’s understanding of the life, society and culture of the Arab people.

Zaytoun CIC were recently announced as the 2009 winner. Nominations for the 2010 award will open in late 2009.

How to nominate:

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must describe their chosen candidate's or nominee's achievements as well as their impact on the British public using prescribed application form.

All nominations are welcome, either from individuals or organisations that wish to be considered for the award or from those who wish to nominate a particular individual or organisation.

Please note that previous winners and the specially-commended cannot be considered for nomination for five years and two years respectively. All other former nominations can be re-submitted.
